Future City 2015 Schedule Released

The 2015 Great Plains Region Future City Competition is fastly approaching. See below for scheduling details on the day off the competition, January 24th, 2015:

Time Activity Location/Details
7:30 – 8:30 Physical Model Check-in Competition Expense Forms turned in Media Waiver/Honor Statement Forms turned in (if not already in CMS) Park in the lot just north of the Engineering Complex and enter the north doors of the Engineering Complex (Fiedler/Rathbone Halls) to drop off your model, competition expense forms, and media waivers/honor statement form (if not already in the CMS).
Registration Held in Forum Hall at the Student Union
8:40 – 9:00 Opening Ceremonies Held in Forum Hall
9:20 – 11:50 Preliminary Round Teams will have a separate physical model and team presentation judging time in the Engineering Complex (between 40 and 70 minutes between each judging session)
11:00 – 1:00 Lunch On your own.
12:40 – 1:00 Keynote Speaker Held in Forum Hall
1:00 Scores Released Outside Forum Hall (Educators Only)
1:20 – 2:20 Final Round Held in Forum Hall
2:20 – 3:30 Awards Held in Forum Hall

Future City 2015 Pre-Registration

The 2015 Great Plains Region Future City Competition will be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2015. Teams are welcome to fill out a few of the required forms ahead of time in order to speed up the registration process on the day of the competition. Click the links below to download the forms:

SimCity Submission Guide

The deadline to submit your SimCity model is this Friday November 21st. Please make sure that you have it loaded into CMS by midnight on the 21st. the process can be a little tricky so please follow the guide below very closely and feel free to email or call us if you have any trouble. Kevin and I are in the office 7-4 M-F.

Calling all Future City teams: Jump start your research for this year’s Feeding Future Cities essay when you tune into our panel of experts on Wednesday, October 8th from 4:00 to 5:30pm (eastern).

Join us for an informative webinar and learn about some of the issues associated with urban agriculture. Our speakers are:

  • Marty Matlock, Executive Director, Office for Sustainability and Professor, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, University of Arkansas
  • Hala Chaoui, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs and Land O’Lakes
  • Gene Giacomelli, Professor, Ag & Biosystems Engineering Dept, and Director of the Controlled Environment Agriculture Center at The University of Arizona.

Our host will be Tom Chmielenski, Advisory Software Engineer with Bentley Systems, Inc.

The Great Plains Region is FREE. Please select “Bill Me” and thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and university partners, we will not send you a bill for the registration fee.

We will be using the new SimCity software ONLY this year so get your IT people involved early! There is now an offline mode that we will be using and should make things easier for playing the game at school. Some helpful documentation can be found on the national site (http://futurecity.org/design/overview) but as always please feel free to contact us with any questions or problems.
